Because my mystery novel, "Lucid", explores the world of dreams, I am keeping a diary of my own personal dream experiences in this blog.

Last Night I Dreamt a bird came in through my bedroom window. At first it was fairly small; it looked like some sort of small, black crane. I was holding one of my dogs back, thinking he might scare the bird…but it seemed that my dog was more scared of the bird than the other way round. The only one the bird seemed to be frightened of was me. When I approached the bird he became defensive. He stood very upright and stretched out his neck, and began to grow and grow, until he was taller than I was, with a great long neck that reached up to the ceiling. Then he extended his wings outward, revealing his enormous wingspan. I immediately said, ‘I have to get a photo of this’ and ran off to get my camera. I aimed at the bird and pressed the shutter button…but nothing happened. I tried many times to photograph the bird, but my camera refused to work. I even fetched my other camera, but that wouldn’t work either, so I asked my husband to snap a picture with his cellphone. He was able to take a picture, but when we checked the phone, the photo had vanished. Weirder still, when I was looking at it through my camera, the bird didn’t look like a bird at all. It looked like a man with a strange, eerie face, holding his arms outward just the way the bird had held out its wings.
